Time to change the radio’s contents again. These are a few of the songs and instrumental pieces I’ve gathered to keep me inspired not only during November, but also while preparing the outline, working on the characters, etc.The novel’s genre is sci-fi with a healthy dose of cyberpunk, so let’s not be too surprised at the choice of songs (even though not all of them will suit fast-paced scenes: I have a few quiet moments in it, too).
- Juno Reactor — Guardian Angel: This isn’t the original 1996 version, but the one remixed by DJ Xavier for the Texhnolyze series soundtrack. I don’t normally listen to techno. This one, though, strikes a chord every time I listen to it.
- Tesla — Into The Now: From the eponymous 2003 album. Don’t wonder anymore where the nickname of my main female character comes from.
- Origa — Inner Universe: Opening to Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex. The lyrics seem to be in some sort of Slavic language; unfortunately, I have no idea of what they mean.
- Megadeth — Sweating Bullets: First, I like Megadeth. Second, this is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Third, it fits Heiji/Raven in my story well enough.
- Vangelis — End Title: Blade Runner soundtrack here. I wouldn’t have been able to write the word “cyberpunk” without putting some BR in it. Furthermore, this instrumental piece is closely tied, in my memories, to my Netrunner character, since we used it a lot for parts that involved diving into the Matrix… err, the Network.. whatever name was given to it in English.
- Jens Malhstedt — Ciel Ouvert: The original version of this song is by Yello; this is the remix done by Jens Mahlstedt on the Hands On Yello album.
- Apoptygma Berzerk — In This Together: Yeah, well, you could really say all my poor characters are “in this together”. Aren’t they!
- Kajiura Yuki — Limits: From the .hack//Sign second OST. I fancy this one for a pursuit scene or something similar.
- Kawai Kenji — Floating Museum: Not the most known piece out of the original Ghost In The Shell soudntrack. I listen to this one for quiet but somewhat intriguing/dark scenes. There’s a certain melancholy to it that gives me the shivers.
- Frederic Motte— Westminster Roofs: From the Nightmare Creatures game soundtrack. I always found the game impossible to enjoy, but this particular piece is always a must-have for me for tense and full of anguish scenes.
- Pat Benatar — Invincible: A dive back into the 80s. Fast-enough to my liking, and with a theme that fits my characters well.
- Type O Negative — I Don’t Wanna Be Me: Who wants to be themselves in a cyberpunk world anyway!
- Garbage — Push It: Not the most recent song, but one that keeps me pumped up as well.
- Bana — Half-Pain: Long version of the ending theme to Witch Hunter Robin. This one, I really like it for an “end credits song”, hence its inclusion here.

I’m familiar with Tesla, Megadeath, Pat Benatar (grew up with her) and Garbage. Music is a great way to pump up our creativity. 🙂 Best of luck!
